The main objective of the works is to rationalize the Baluchistan State Hydraulic Works' major irrigation investments for the 5-year period from 2005 to 2010 taking into consideration available budget funds.  The project covered some 30 major projects with a total irrigated area of about 230,000 hectares.

The Consultancy services for this project comprised the following:

• Preparation of a Core Program of Drainage and On-Farm Development Works from the list of completed and on-going major irrigation and drainage schemes.

• Preparation of a Master Plan and Design and Implementation of a Core Program.

• Assistance to the Client in the Preparation of Annual Public Investment and Application Programs.

Detailed activities were as follows:

• Determination of the new policy and strategy in irrigation development.

• Preparation a master plan.

• Preparation of the long term investment program.

• Prioritization of the rehabilitation projects identified in inception report, preparation of the detail designs, tender documents and supervising the implementation and monitoring the performance of the rehabilitation projects.

• Preparation of a Management Information System model.
