Several coastal areas throughout Abu Dhabi are affected by shallow watertable.  Supplemental irrigation has caused deposition of salts and deterioration of agricultural lands over just few years of operation.  Affected areas exceeded 2,000 hectares and the loss of production was very large.  Drainage systems were designed along with a leaching and chemical amendments schedule to reclaim entire areas and bring affected lands back into profitable production within a period of six months.
