Al
Foah
Date Palm production farm (Farm) has a total area of
1,300 ha of commercial date palm plantations.
Farming is organic and aimed at producing high
quality date palms products and bi-products for
export to European markets.
The development of the Farm faced numerous
challenges particularly water supplies.
Overall a large volume of water is required on a
daily basis to supply production operations.
Consultancy services to Al
Foah
involved the following tasks:
|

|
|
1.
Calculation of actual water requirements per month
starting from planting date and until maturity and
beyond when maximum water requirements are consumed.
2.
Investigation of water availability scenarios: this
task involves asserting the quantities that can be
obtained from each of the supply sources and
identifying possible reductions or constraints that
may occur either from limitations of the existing
infrastructure, seasonal water supply variations, or
from any requirements upstream Al
Foah
farm taking priority over Al
Foah
supply.
3.
Designing the optimal irrigation system
infrastructure for the full farm. This
involved designing a system operating at a capacity
of 2,500 m3/hour.
4.
Preparation of cost budget including detailed
breakdown of costs.
5.
Synthesis of optimal development plan taking into
account the following issues:
a.
Water requirements
b.
Water availability
c.
Optimized design
d.
Execution time
e.
Project management timeline
